Exodus 3:1-6:
Now Moses
was tending the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian,
and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to Horeb,
the mountain of God. There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in
flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush
was on fire it did not burn up. So Moses thought, "I will go
over and see this strange sight-why the bush does not burn up."
When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him
from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here
I am." "Do not come any closer," God said. "Take
off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground."
Then he said, "I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham,
the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob." At this, Moses hid his
face, because he was afraid to look at God."
Exodus 24:12,
31:18:
The Lord
said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain and stay here,
and I will give you the tablets of stone, with the law and commands
I have written for their instruction." … When the Lord
finished speaking to Moses on Mount Sinai, he gave him the two tablets
of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of
God.
Genesis
22:1-2, 9-12, 17b-18:
Some
time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!"
"Here I am," he replied. Then God said, "Take your
son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of
Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains
I will tell you about." … When they reached the place God
had told him about, Abraham built an altar there and arranged the
wood on it. He bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top
of the wood. The he reached out his hand and took the knife to slay
his son. But the angel of the Lord called out to him from heaven,
"Abraham! Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied. "Do
not lay a hand on the boy," he said. "Do not do anything
to him. Now I know that you fear God, because you have not withheld
from me your son, your only son." … "Your descendants
will take possession of the cities of their enemies, and through your
offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed
me."
